US President Donald Trump is the factor that could fundamentally change the course of Russia’s war against Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at a press conference following his meeting with Trump.

Responding to a Truth Social post by Donald Trump, journalists asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy whether the fact that the US President now believed in Ukraine’s ability to reclaim its territories could be a game-changer in the war with Russia.

"Trump is a game changer by himself if he will be sure in Ukraine. And I think that he is more close now to this situation," Zelenskyy replied.

Zelenskyy meets Trump in New York

On September 23, Zelenskyy and Trump met in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. After the talks, Trump wrote on Truth Social that with Europe’s support, Ukraine was capable of regaining all its territories, and perhaps "going further," though he did not specify what he meant.

According to Zelenskyy, Trump’s change of view came as a result of their meeting. Moreover, Zelenskyy said Trump had started to trust him more than Russian President Vladimir Putin, noting that, unlike Ukraine, the Russian leader had been feeding the US President false information.

Trump also said on the same day that his good relations with Putin had not produced the desired result and "no longer mean anything."
