US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the possibility of resuming hostilities against Iran, according to Axios.

Sources report that the leaders of the two countries held a phone call the previous day. During the conversation, they discussed the status of negotiations with Tehran and potential timelines for the resumption of combat operations.

Insiders revealed that the Israeli prime minister is insisting on the resumption of US strikes on Iran after the midterm elections in the US.

At the same time, Trump currently intends to let negotiations proceed. According to sources, this approach by the American president has caused concern for the Israeli prime minister.

An Israeli source described the phone call as "tough," while an American source called it "direct."

What strategy has Trump chosen?

As noted by Axios, the American president is adhering to a dual strategy. On one hand, he is attempting to reach an agreement with Iran and restore peace talks.

On the other hand, Trump is preparing for the possible renewal of large-scale combat operations after the US midterm elections.

Axios recalls that Trump adhered to a similar approach prior to conducting Operation "Midnight Hammer" in June 2025 and Operation "Epic Fury" in February.

The US president could deliver a powerful strike on Iran if the Republicans lose.

It also became known that Iran is preparing for escalation - Khamenei ordered an expansion of the list of targets for the US and Israel.
