Third assault brigade on Avdiivka: Holding defensive positions, Russia has endless resources
Fighters from the Third Separate Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding defensive positions in Avdiivka. The enemy has superior resources and is throwing them into the battle, according to the press officer of the Third Separate Assault Brigade, Oleksandr Borodin.
He said that the situation in Avdiivka is critical, with the enemy increasing pressure. According to him, the Russians have deployed forces from two regular armies into the fighting, with a ratio at the brigade level of 7 to 1. The occupiers are increasing the use of guided aerial bombs and phosphorus bombs.
"We are holding defensive positions. The task is difficult because of the (force) ratio and the endless amount of resources the enemy has... The enemy has constant support, instead of a worn-out battalion, another one comes in, and there is nothing indicating that they might run out of either people or resources," said the press officer.
Borodin also explained why the situation in Avdiivka is more complicated than it was in Bakhmut at a critical moment.
"The enemy has a huge number of combat air vehicles, equipment. Wagner mercenaries preserved the equipment, they mostly worked with people, while here now it's tank attacks along with infantry. A large number of APCs, IFVs, aviation, FPV drones. There was nothing like this in Bakhmut when the Wagner group was there," he added.
Fighting in the Avdiivka area
Avdiivka is called the "gateway to Donetsk," and Russian invaders have been trying to capture the city since autumn 2023. Ukrainian military sources note that the Russians have suffered tens of thousands of casualties in battles for Avdiivka.
The invaders managed to enter Avdiivka. Another outpost of defense remains in the coking plant.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces emphasize that the situation in Avdiivka is approaching a critical point. Yesterday, February 15, the press service of the Third Assault Brigade officially confirmed that they had been redeployed to the Avdiivka area to reinforce Ukrainian defense.
