Telegram messenger has started blocking Russian state propaganda channels in the European Union. As of today, RIA Novosti, NTV, Rossiya 1, Izvestia, and RT channels are no longer available there, according to Russian media.

For example, the RIA Novosti Telegram channel is not available to users from Latvia, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, France, and Switzerland.

“This channel can't be displayed because it violated local laws,” the statement said.

The situation is the same with the Izvestia Telegram channel, which is not loaded at least in Spain, Germany, Sweden, and Belgium. When you try to access the channels, you also get a message about violations of local laws.

RBC-Ukraine has checked the availability of RIA Novosti in Poland and confirms that it is blocked.

In May, the European Union banned Voice of Europe, RIA Novosti, Izvestia, and Rossiyskaya Gazeta from broadcasting in the EU for war propaganda. At the time, Russia was accused of a systematic campaign to manipulate the media and distort facts.

In the fall, Telegram blocked the RT channel in Ukraine for violating local laws.

As US sanctioned Russian propaganda, its channels were blocked by TikTok. The accounts of Sputnik and RT International - about 40 channels in total - were deleted.

Meta blocked Russian propaganda media on its Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads platforms.
