Ukrainian stylist Yana Markovska has revealed which items can become a trendy replacement for the usual basics in summer 2026. The expert named six options to help make your look more interesting, according to her Instagram video.
The white T-shirt has remained one of the main wardrobe staples for years, but stylists are increasingly suggesting paying attention to other basic items. According to Markovska, some alternatives can make a look more expressive and modern without extra effort.
The expert notes that a regular white T-shirt can look too simple and not add character to an outfit. Instead, several options are easy to style with jeans, skirts, jackets, or summer suits.
What to replace a white T-shirt with
White oversized shirt
The first alternative the stylist names is a white loose-fitting shirt made of linen or thick cotton. Such a piece, she says, is a true transformer in a wardrobe.
It can be worn on its own, tucked into pants or a skirt, or left unbuttoned over a top. A white shirt adds lightness to the look and creates a relaxed summer style.
Ribbed white tank top
Another option is a ribbed white tank top, often referred to as a "wife-beater" or "ribbed vest." The stylist considers it a more interesting alternative to a regular T-shirt thanks to its fabric texture.
This style works well with jackets, tailored skirts, or pieces with complex cuts. It helps make even a fairly formal look lighter and less overwhelming.
Denim shirt
The third option Yana Markovska names is a thin denim shirt made of lightweight denim. It doesn't cling to the body in the heat, holds its shape well, and adds texture to the look.
The stylist advises not to overcomplicate the outfit: just button the shirt up a few buttons, slightly roll up the sleeves — and a stylish summer ensemble is ready.
Off-the-shoulder top
Among the more trendy options, the expert highlights off-the-shoulder tops. This style emphasizes the collarbones and makes the look more elegant.
According to the stylist, even the simplest jeans can look more striking if paired with such a statement top.
Silk top or a thin-strap camisole
Another relevant option is a lingerie-style top or a thin-strap camisole. The contrast between the delicate texture and rougher summer fabrics works well here.
Such tops pair beautifully with linen, denim, or pieces made of structured fabric. They add lightness to the look and make it more thoughtful.
Cargo shirt
Separately, the stylist drew attention to cargo-style shirts with large chest pockets. Despite their popularity among bloggers, this trend may not suit everyone.
According to Yana Markovska, large patch pockets in the chest area can visually add extra volume. So before buying such a piece, it's worth assessing whether it fits your body type and overall style.
The stylist advises not to limit yourself to one familiar basic piece but to experiment with textures, silhouettes, and details. It is the right alternative that can make even a simple summer look more modern and expressive.
