Spain deploys most troops in peacetime due to floods
As a result of the catastrophic floods in Spain, the government decided to deploy a record number of military personnel in peacetime. Almost 5,000 rescue operations have already been carried out in the affected areas, reports RTVE.
At least 211 people have been killed by the floods in Spain, and dozens more are still missing.
To address the consequences of these natural disasters, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced a decision to deploy an additional 5,000 troops to help with flood relief efforts.
An additional 5,000 police and Civil Guard personnel will also be deployed to support these efforts.
More than 4,800 rescue operations have already been carried out in the flood-affected areas, helping more than 30,000 people who were left homeless, stranded on roads or in flooded industrial areas.
However, the need for assistance is still great.
“Dozens of people are still searching for their relatives, and hundreds of families are mourning the loss of loved ones, friends or neighbors,” Sanchez emphasized.
The number of flood victims in Spain continues to grow. Local services are working to eliminate the consequences of the disaster.
It is known that rescuers have already managed to recover 158 bodies from the rubble, but they say that there may be many more victims.
