Smoothies are a popular morning beverage that can benefit the body. Regular consumption can boost immunity and aid in weight management, to name just a few, according to Eat This, Not That.

Enriches the body with nutrients

Smoothies from various fruits and vegetables provide a wide range of essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants necessary for overall health.

If you need to increase your iron intake, combine your smoothie and add iron-rich foods such as spinach, tofu, or pumpkin seeds. If you need more protein, fill your smoothie with berries, leafy greens, nuts, and seeds.

Increases vegetable consumption

"Many people struggle to consume enough vegetables in their daily diet, and drinking a smoothie is an easy and delicious way to boost your vegetable intake without feeling overwhelmed by large salads or cooked vegetables," says dietitian Mary Sabat.

It's also worth adding spinach, kale, cauliflower, or avocado to your smoothie.

Improves digestion

Regular consumption of fiber-rich smoothies can improve digestion.

"The high-fiber content of smoothies can aid digestion and promote regular bowel movements, helping to prevent constipation and maintain a healthy digestive system, helping to prevent constipation and support a healthy digestive system," says the dietitian.

For fiber-rich ingredients to add to your smoothies, try berries, chia seeds, figs, apples, oats, cocoa, canned pumpkin, almonds, or avocado.

Supports immunity

"Some of the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants found in smoothies can help strengthen the immune system, making it more resilient to infections and illnesses," says Sabat.

Vitamin C is known to boost immunity. You can get more of this vitamin through smoothie ingredients such as strawberries, oranges, and orange juice. Zinc is another important nutrient for a healthy immune system. Adding oats, pumpkin seeds, whole milk yogurt, cashews, and almonds to your smoothie can increase your zinc levels.

Aids in weight management

"Incorporating them into your diet can help you feel full and satisfied while consuming fewer calories overall," says the dietitian.

You can easily personalize your smoothies according to specific weight loss goals. If you need more protein, add protein powder, nuts, and nut butter to your beverage. If you need more fiber, add fruits, vegetables, and seeds.

Promotes healthier skin

"The vitamins and antioxidants in some smoothies can promote healthy skin by combating oxidative stress and supporting collagen production, leading to a clearer complexion and a more youthful appearance," explains Sabat.

For example, foods like walnuts, almonds, and avocados contain healthy fats associated with improved skin health. Fruits like strawberries and kiwi contain vitamin C, a nutrient that promotes smooth skin and reduces wrinkles.

Provides energy to the body

"The combination of some of the fruits and vegetables found in smoothies provides a natural source of energy, helping to combat fatigue and improve overall vitality," adds the dietitian.

Common smoothie ingredients like yogurt, nuts, bananas, oats, avocados, berries, and matcha powder can energize and rejuvenate the body.
