Simple secret to longevity: Beyond diet and exercise
Everyone wants to know the secret to longevity. However, many often think that exercising or dieting is necessary for a long life. But it's all much simpler, reports the Express website.
The secret to longevity
Doctor Nighat Arif has revealed that numerous studies link healthy eating and an active lifestyle to longevity. However, this isn't the most crucial factor.
"It’s not your genetics, it’s not exercise, it’s not your diet, it’s not your career, it’s not money, it’s not your IQ, it’s not fame," stated the expert.
As it turns out, the key to longevity is much simpler. It's about positive relationships that make us happier, healthier, and help us live longer.
According to the doctor, based on research by Harvard scientists, social connections aid in staying healthy and living longer. Before reaching this conclusion, the research group studied the medical records of 724 participants worldwide, asking detailed questions about their lives at two-year intervals.
For instance, women in happy marriages or positive relationships had a lower risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Guidelines to follow
Having supportive and caring relationships acts as a buffer against life stresses and protects overall health. Currently, this is what we need the most.
Experts from Harvard Medical School recommend adhering to three rules:
- Focus on your most significant relationships.
- Choose shared activities that bring joy to you and the people you care about.
- Delegate or discard tasks that take up time or do them together with family or friends.
Additionally, good sleep is associated with several health benefits that enhance longevity, including improving mental health, metabolic processes, and even enhancing the effectiveness of diet and physical exercises.
