People who live to be 100 years old follow simple diets that help maintain their health. A researcher has named a dessert eaten by long-livers from “blue zones”, according to The Mirror website.

What dessert promotes long life

Researcher Dan Buettner has named a dessert that is often eaten by residents of such “blue zones” as Japan, Greece, Italy, California, and Costa Rica.

It's a simple chia seed pudding with strawberries and vanilla. This dessert is high in protein and rich in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids.
The recipe is enough for two servings. Therefore, you can halve the proportions if you want to make one:

  • 3 cups (720 ml) of almond milk
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons of maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) chia seeds
  • 3 cups (500 g) fresh strawberries

Whisk together the almond milk, vanilla extract, maple syrup, and cinnamon in a bowl. Add the chia seeds to the liquid mixture and soak until they absorb the liquid, creating a pudding-like consistency.

Let this mixture sit in the refrigerator overnight, and it will thicken. In the morning, rinse and slice a few fresh strawberries and use them to top the chia pudding.

Benefits of chia seeds

Chia seeds have been linked to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which means less stress on the heart.

Experts recommend consuming one to two tablespoons of chia seeds daily. However, excessive consumption of chia can lead to digestive problems such as constipation, diarrhea, bloating, and gas.

Avoid consuming large amounts of dry chia seeds, as they absorb fluids efficiently and can swell in the digestive system, leading to unpleasant consequences for the gastrointestinal tract.

Increasing your vitamin C intake with a good source like strawberries also adds health benefits to this dessert. The berry helps maintain healthy skin, blood vessels, bones, and cartilage and promotes wound healing.

Earlier, we reported on two drinks that long-livers of the Greek island of Ikaria drink.
