20-year-old mathematics student Eve Gilles, who was crowned Miss France 2024, has become the subject of criticism due to her short haircut and androgynous appearance. The jury has been accused of promoting wokeism that condemns racial and social injustice, reports Daily Mail.
Details of the scandal
Eve is now considered a historical figure in the history of the Miss France competition, as she became the first winner with a short haircut in the competition's more than a century-long history.

However, according to some critics, to win, a girl should have adhered to a more "traditional" notion of beauty, including long hair and curvaceous forms.
The girl herself stated that she intentionally chose this look to emphasize the uniqueness of each woman.
Miss France competition was won for the first time by a girl with short hair. She was criticized and called "unfeminine."

"We're used to seeing beautiful Misses with long hair, but I chose an androgynous look with short hair," she said.
The girl considered her victory a triumph of "diversity" and added, "No one should dictate to you who you are."
Traditionally, the winner of the competition is determined through a combination of public voting and the jury's decision.
Despite Eve Gilles ranking only third in public voting, the judging panel awarded her the first position.

Due to the jury's decision, they were accused of "imposing woke values."
"Miss France is no longer a beauty contest but a woke contest which is based on inclusiveness," "...she 'doesn't look anything like Miss France' and that 'we don't care about her haircut but the androgynous body is obviously there to serve as woke".

Many also expressed support for Gilles, including French politician Sandrine Rousseau (who also sports a pixie cut).
"So, in France, in 2023, we measure the progress of respect for women by the length of their hair?" she said.
