Russian troops push towards Vuhledar from three sides - British intelligence
Russian forces are pressuring Vuhledar in the Donetsk region from three sides, with little expected to change over the next week, according to a British military intelligence report.
According to the report, Russian forces have made further gains around Vuhledar.
“It is highly likely that Russian forces now threaten the town from three sides. They are already contesting the outskirts of the town, against which Russia has made repeated assaults since 2022. It is likely that Russian forces will continue to pressure on this heavily defended part of the line over the next week,” the report states, adding that Russian troops are already assaulting the town's outskirts.
Furthermore, British intelligence reports that Russian forces are engaged in fighting in the eastern half of Toretsk, south of Pokrovsk, and have “made only slow progress around Chasiv Yar.”
“It is likely that Russian forces are attacking multiple objectives simultaneously to stretch Ukrainian forces. However, this has also prevented Russia from massing forces on a single point of the line to have a more significant effect,” the document concludes.
Situation near Vuhledar
On September 24, 154 combat engagements occurred on the frontline. In several areas, the enemy deployed aircraft. The heaviest Russian attacks took place in the Pokrovsk, Lyman, and Kurakhiv directions.
Specifically, around Vuhledar in the Donetsk region, the situation has become quite critical and continues to deteriorate. The occupiers are destroying the town with airstrikes and artillery, attempting to advance from the flanks. According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian forces have reached the outskirts of Vuhledar and are trying to encircle the town.
However, ISW analysts believe that this is unlikely to provide Russia with any significant operational advantage for further offensive operations in the western part of the region.
