At an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Russia cynically called the strikes by the US and Israel reckless and demanded an immediate ceasefire, states Russian permanent representative Vasily Nebenzya at the emergency Security Council session.
Thus, at the emergency UN Security Council meeting, Russian permanent representative Vasily Nebenzya — whose country violates every international norm on a daily basis — suddenly became a fervent defender of international law.
Addressing the members of the Security Council, Nebenzya did not spare epithets, calling the actions of the US and Israel aggressive and reckless. The Russian envoy, who usually justifies missile strikes on Ukrainian cities, this time demanded an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East.
Nebenzya said that they demanded that the United States and Israel immediately cease their actions and insisted on restoring efforts based on mutual respect and a balance of interests.
Interestingly, Moscow even offered to provide all necessary assistance for negotiations. Online, this has already been dubbed diplomatic surrealism, since the aggressor country is trying to act as a mediator for peace.
Why the Kremlin is so desperately “standing up” for Tehran
Experts note that behind Nebenzya’s passionate speeches lies purely pragmatic fear. Iran is not just a political partner for Russia — it is a key rear support base in the war against Ukraine.
Three main reasons for Russia’s panic:
- Threat to Shahed drones: Successful airstrikes on Iranian factories and logistics centers could leave the Russian army without cheap kamikaze drones.
- Technological failure: The fact that Ali Khamenei was not saved by any surveillance systems frightened not only Tehran but also Moscow.
- Diplomatic isolation: Losing Iran would mean the destruction of the anti-Western bloc that Russia has been carefully building.
Beijing plays along
Russia’s position was supported by China, which also expressed concern about the territorial integrity of Iran. However, most members of the Security Council viewed these statements skeptically. Western representatives reminded that it is Iranian weapons and Russian aggression that are the main destabilizing factors of the world order.
The meeting ended without any resolutions, but it marked an important moment: when the axis of evil is hurt, it immediately remembers the rules that it itself has trampled.
The situation in the Middle East entered a phase of large-scale military confrontation on February 28, 2026.
