Russian forces launched a massive drone attack on Ukraine on the night of March 21, deploying 214 drones from five different directions, according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"On the night of March 21, the enemy attacked with 214 strike UAVs of the Shahed type and other types of imitation drones," the statement reads.

The drones were launched from five directions: Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Chauda (Crimea).

How Ukraine's Air Defense responded

The aerial attack was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine's Air Force and Defense Forces.

"As of 09:30, the confirmed number of intercepted drones stands at 114, including Shahed strike UAVs and other drone types in the southern, northern, and central regions of the country," the military reported.

Additionally, 81 enemy imitation drones were lost due to signal interference.

Consequences of Russia's attack on Ukraine

The Odesa, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, and Kyiv regions were affected by the Russian attack.

In particular, on the night of March 21, 47 drones were launched towards Kyiv, with more than half of them being intercepted by air defense forces before reaching the capital.

Moreover, on the evening of March 20, Odesa came under drone strikes, leading to explosions and partial power outages in the city. Three people were injured.
