Russian Ka-27 helicopter was destroyed in temporarily occupied Crimea, according to Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk.

"Minus one Russian Ka-27 in Crimea. It was looking for something. It found it," Pletenchuk wrote.

About the Ka-27 helicopter

The experienced model of the helicopter "252" took to the air on August 8, 1973. Based on this basic machine, two main modifications were developed for the Russian Navy - the anti-submarine helicopter Ka-27 and the search and rescue Ka-27PS, and subsequently the transport and combat helicopter for marine infantry Ka-29 and the civilian multi-purpose helicopter Ka-32.

The Ka-27 is designed to detect, track, and destroy submarines traveling at depths of up to 500 meters at speeds of up to 75 km/h in search areas located up to 200 km away from the base ship in sea states up to 5 points during day and night in simple and complex weather conditions.

The helicopter can perform tactical tasks both singly and as part of a group and in interaction with ships in all geographical latitudes. It can also operate from both a shore airfield and from a ship's deck.

Use of Ka-27 in war in Ukraine

As noted by Crimean Wind, currently the Russian Black Sea Fleet uses these helicopters to search for Ukrainian naval drones and landing boats. The helicopters are based at the airfield in Kacha (a town in the Bakhchysarai district, Crimea).
