Russian army starts using North Korean soldiers in assaults - Zelenskyy confirms
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Russian army has started using soldiers from North Korea in assaults. It is currently known that a moderate number of military personnel has been deployed for this purpose.
"Today, there is preliminary information that Russians have begun using North Korean soldiers in assaults — a noticeable number. The Russians are integrating them into combined units and using them in operations in the areas of the Kursk region," the president said.
He explained that North Korean troops have only been observed in that direction, but Ukraine has information suggesting their possible deployment in other sections of the front.
"Losses in this category are already noticeable. In essence, Moscow has dragged another state into this war, and it has done so to the maximum extent. If this is not escalation, what is the escalation many have been discussing? It is Putin who is taking steps that broaden and prolong this war. It is he who is pushing away the possibility of peace. And he wants the world to face more problems in Asia," Zelenskyy emphasized.
At the same time, the Ukrainian leader added that Moscow is ignoring calls from all countries, from China and Brazil to many others, regarding the need to do everything possible to de-escalate.
"If there is no strong global response, Russia makes the war worse. Always. We will defend ourselves, including against these North Koreans. We will continue to coordinate with all our partners to stop this war," the president concluded.
He announced that this issue will be discussed in Europe with Ukraine’s partners next week.
"Sanctions against Russia, support for our defense, investments in Europe’s collective security, and strong diplomacy for peace — these are the things that must increase weekly so that next year, together with our partners, we can achieve our main goal," Zelenskyy stated.
North Korean soldiers in Russia
In early October, it became known that soldiers from North Korea had arrived in Russia. They were sent to the Kursk region, where fighting is ongoing.
Earlier today, Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate reported that Russia plans to use North Korean soldiers in assaults in the Kursk region in the near future.
