Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 5

The Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to successfully repel Russian attempts to advance along the entire frontline. Since the start of 5 December, fighting has remained intense, the enemy has suffered significant losses, and Ukrainian forces are firmly holding their positions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As of 10:00 PM on 5 November 2025, a total of 180 combat engagements were recorded. Ukrainian units are delivering a decisive response, inflicting fire damage on the Russian forces.
Russian forces carried out 48 airstrikes using 123 guided aerial bombs, launched 4,808 kamikaze drones, and conducted 4,114 strikes on Ukrainian positions and settlements.
Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions
Ukrainian defenders repelled an assault in which the enemy conducted two airstrikes and 154 attacks, including two from multiple-launch rocket systems.
Southern-Slobozhanskyi and Kupiansk directions
In the areas of Vovchansk, Prylipky, Vidradne, Izbytske, and Lyman, the occupiers attempted five assaults but were stopped.
On the Kupiansk direction, attacks in Stepova Novoselivka, Pishchane, and Hlushkivka were also repelled.
Lyman and Sloviansk directions
Russia carried out 19 assaults near Novovodiane, Novoiehorivka, Zarychne, Derylove, and Kolodiaz.
On the Sloviansk direction, eight enemy assault attempts were repelled near Dronivka, Serebrianka, and Siversk.
Kramatorsk and Kostiantynivka directions
Two attacks near Novomarkove and Vasiukivka were repelled. On the Kostiantynivka direction, Russian forces conducted 25 assaults targeting Oleksandro-Shultyne, Shcherbynivka, Kleban-Byk, Pleshchiivka, Yablunivka, and Rusyn Yar.
Pokrovsk and Oleksandrivka directions
On the Pokrovsk direction, 48 Russian attempts to advance were recorded. Ukrainian defenders eliminated 106 occupiers and destroyed a vehicle, 31 UAVs, a command post, six relay antennas, an artillery system, and 21 shelters.
On the Oleksandrivka direction, the enemy attempted 14 breakthroughs, with fighting continuing in seven locations.
Huliaipole, Orikhiv, and Prydniprovsk directions
Seven combat clashes were recorded on the Huliaipole direction and four on the Orikhiv direction.
Units in the Prydniprovsk area stopped six attacks. No significant changes were observed in other parts of the frontline.
The Russian "shadow fleet" tanker Kairos, which was attacked by Ukrainian drones on 28 November, has drifted near the Bulgarian coast and needs assistance. The vessel is under constant monitoring by Bulgaria’s Maritime Administration Agency and naval and police forces due to poor weather conditions.
The company Fire Point has delivered a new batch of Flamingo cruise missiles to Ukrainian defenders, despite ongoing Russian propaganda and claims by pseudo-journalists about a supposedly hopeless situation.
