Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of Оctober 9

Over the past 24 hours, there have been 217 combat clashes on the front line. The enemy is exerting the strongest pressure on the Pokrovsk and Oleksandrivka directions, where 98 assaults have been recorded, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"Due to the transition of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to a corps structure, as well as changes in the operational situation, the names of some directions in the eastern operational zone are changing," the General Staff stated.
The Russian army carried out 87 airstrikes on Ukrainian positions and populated areas, dropping 192 guided bombs.
In addition, the enemy used 5,827 kamikaze drones and conducted 4,192 shelling attacks on positions of Ukrainian forces and settlements, including 118 from multiple launch rocket systems.
Airstrikes hit the areas of the settlements of Bilohirya, Stepnohirsk, Lukianivske, Prymorske, and Hryhorivka in the Zaporizhzhia region, as well as Prydniprovskyi and Virivka in the Kherson region.
Ukrainian defense aviation, missile forces, and artillery struck two areas of enemy manpower concentration, two drone control points, a logistics depot, and two enemy command-observation posts.
Situation by directions
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, nine combat clashes were recorded over the past 24 hours. The enemy carried out 12 airstrikes, dropped a total of 33 guided bombs, and conducted 179 artillery shellings, including five with multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, there were 34 combat clashes in the areas of Vovchansk, Zapadne, Dovhenke, towards Kolodiazne, Kutkivka, Odradne, Dvorichanske, and Lyptsi.
In the Kupiansk direction, seven enemy attacks were recorded during the day. Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled assaults near Kupiansk, Stepova Novoselivka, and towards Kurylivka.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked 15 times, attempting to advance near Novomykhailivka, Shandryholove, Derylove, Karpivka, Torske, and towards Olhivka and Novyi Myr.
In the Sloviansk direction, the enemy attacked positions of the Defense Forces 10 times near Yampol, Vyimka, Fedorivka, Dronivka, and Hryhorivka.
Over the past day, there were no offensive actions by the enemy on the Kramatorsk direction.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the enemy carried out 17 attacks near Rusyn Yar, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Shcherbynivka, Pleshchiivka, Poltavka, and towards Kostiantynivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped 58 assaults of the aggressor in the areas of Zatyshok, Nykanorivka, Chervonyi Lyman, Lysivka, Rodynske, Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Dachne, Muravka, and towards Myrnohrad, Balahan, Pokrovsk, and Filiia.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, the Defense Forces repelled 40 enemy assaults in the areas of Andriivka-Klevtsove, Piddubne, Sosnivka, Filiia, Sichneve, Komyshuvakha, Vorone, Verbove, Oleksiivka, Novomykolaivka, Novohrhorivka, Poltavka, and Malynivka.
In the Huliaipole direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.
In the Orikhiv direction, nine combat clashes occurred over the past day — the Russian forces tried to advance near Stepove, Kamianske, and towards Novoandriivka.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Ukrainian units repelled one enemy assault in the direction of the Antonivskyi Bridge.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of the enemy forming offensive groups have been detected.
Russian losses in the war
Over the past day, Russian troops have suffered significant losses — 1,020 militants were eliminated.
