Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of February 9
As of 10 p.m., February 9, 92 combat engagements took place in the frontline over the last day. Most of the fighting remained in the Pokrovsk and Kursk directions, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
Russian shellings and air attacks
Today, the Russians launched 58 air strikes, used two missiles, dropped 86 guided bombs, and carried out 1086 kamikaze drone attacks and 4429 shelling on Ukrainian troops' positions.
The situation at the frontlines
In the Kharkiv direction, Ukrainian troops repelled three Russian attacks in the areas of Vovchansk and Fyholivka. The aggressor carried out air strikes on the settlements of Nesterne and Slatyne.
The Russian forces made seven attacks on Ukrainian army fortifications in the Kupiansk direction, near Bohuslavka, Stepova Novosilka, Holubivka, Nova Kruhliakivka, Petropavlivka and Zahryzove. Ukrainian troops successfully repelled six attacks, and another combat engagement is ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, Russian troops stormed Ukrainian positions ten times in the areas of Zelenyi Hai, Novoserhiivka, Yampolivka, Kolodiazi, Kopanky, and Novolyubivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, two hostile attacks continue near Chasiv Yar.
In the Toretsk direction, the Russian militants stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders 12 times today near Toretsk, Krymske, and Shcherbynivka. Two combat engagements near Toretsk are still ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the Russian army made 31 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian forces during the day. Russian forces are most active in the areas of Zelene Pole, Vodiane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Pishchane, Udachne, Novooleksandrivka, Andriivka and Dachne. Two combat engagements are still ongoing. The Russians launched air strikes on Zvirove, Pokrovsk, Filiia, and Hrodivka.
“According to preliminary estimates, today our troops eliminated 114 and wounded 97 occupants in this area; destroyed one armored personnel carrier, seven vehicles, five motorcycles, four UAVs, and severely damaged a tank and two invaders' guns,” the statement said.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the Russians tried to break through eight times in vain near Kostiantynopil. The settlements of Rozlyv, Odradne, Novosilka, and Storozhove were attacked from the air, the Russians used four guided bombs and 24 unguided missiles.
The Russian forces did not conduct any offensive actions in the Siversk, Huliaypole, Prydniprovskyi, and Orikhiv directions. At the same time, they launched air strikes with 43 guided bombs and 10 unguided missiles in the areas of Huliaypole, Chervone, Novopil, Piatykhatky, Kamianske, Lukyanivske, Stepnohirsk and Prydniprovske.
In the Kursk direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled 17 Russian attacks, and one combat engagement is still ongoing. In addition, the adversary launched 23 air strikes, using 37 anti-aircraft missiles, and fired 394 artillery rounds, including eight from multiple launch rocket systems.
There were no significant changes in the situation in other directions.
133 combat engagements took place in the frontline on February 8. The Russians attacked the Pokrovsk area the most, while the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck six districts with Russian troops.
