Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 18

Over the past day, 174 combat clashes were recorded on the frontline. Russians continue to apply pressure near Pokrovsk, Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, and other areas, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Over the past day, rocket forces and artillery of the Defense Forces struck two areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, as well as two enemy air defense systems.
Situation by direction:
In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy made one unsuccessful attempt to advance near Vovchansk.
In the Kupiansk direction, there were eight attacks by the occupiers in the past 24 hours. The Defense Forces repelled enemy assault actions near Holubivka, Stepova Novoselivka, and Kruhlia Rivka.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked 13 times, attempting to advance near Kopanky, Tverdokhlibove, Makiivka, and Terny.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian troops repelled an enemy attack near Bilohorivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy conducted 26 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Chasiv Yar and in the direction of Stupochky and Bila Hora.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy carried out 19 attacks on Ukrainian units near Toretsk, Diliivka, Krymske, and Shcherbynivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, over the past day, defenders stopped 79 enemy assaults near Zeleny Pole, Vodyane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Lysivka, Shevchenko, Zvirove, Udachne, Uspenivka, Sribne, Dachne, Ulakliv, and Yantarne.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled two enemy assaults near Velyka Novosilka and Kostiantynopil.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy tried to advance once towards Novodanylivka but was repelled.
In the Prydniprovske direction, the Defense Forces successfully repelled two enemy assaults.
In the Hulyaipole direction, the enemy conducted no active operations.
In the Kursk direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 16 enemy attacks over the past day.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of enemy offensive group formation were detected.
Situation on the frontline
It is worth noting that Pokrovsk is currently one of the key defensive points in eastern Ukraine. The Defense Forces report that the occupiers are attempting to encircle the city.
According to Operational-Strategic Group Khortytsia, the Russians aim to "encircle" Pokrovsk and are trying to approach its outskirts.
Additionally, urban combat continues in Chasiv Yar and Toretsk. The Russians are also attempting to push Ukrainian forces out of the Kursk region.
