Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of July 28

Today, July 28, Russia launched a missile attack on Kharkiv with two Kh-35U anti-ship missiles. Throughout the day, the Kharkiv region has been under constant bombardment by Russian aircraft, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The ministry added that since the beginning of the day, from the Russian cities of Belgorod and Shebekino, the Russians have launched two air strikes on the territory of the Kharkiv region using six glide bombs. The enemy targeted the area of the town of Vovchansk.
Other attacks by the Russian Federation
The border settlements of the Sumy and Chernihiv regions continue to suffer from cynical shelling from the territory of Russia. Artillery and mortar fire hit the areas of Ulanove, Basivka, Yunakivka, Sadky, Velyka Pysarivka, Karpovychi, Mykolaivka, Ponomarenky, Bachivsk and Popivka.
Situation at the frontlines
As of 16:00, 73 combat engagements took place in the frontline during the day.
In the Kharkiv direction, Russians launched three attacks near Hlyboke and Vovchansk, where one firefight is currently underway.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy conducted an assault near Novoosynove. The battle is ongoing. The Russian troops also bombarded Petropavlivka, Tabaivka, and Bohuslavka with five glide bombs.
In the Lyman direction, the invading army attacked the positions of Ukrainian units 12 times near the settlements of Makiivka, Novosergiivka, Nevske, Terny, Novosadove, and Torske. Ukrainian defenders repelled five enemy attacks, seven are still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, the enemy attacked five times near Spirne and Ivano-Daryivka during the day. As a result of the engagements, they were defeated.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy carried out six assault operations near Vasiukivka, Hryhorivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, and Klishchiivka. Ukrainian defense forces repelled half of the attacks, and three more engagements are ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy attacked nine times near Zalizne, Niu York, Toretsk, and Pivnichne. Six battles are over, three are ongoing.
In addition, the invaders carried out nine air strikes on Toretsk, Shcherbynivka, and Niu York.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the Russians carried out assault operations in the areas of Tymofiivka, Vozdvyzhenka, Novooleksandrivka, Zelene Pole, Kalynove, Ivanivka, Prohres, Zhelanne, Serhiivka, Novoselivka Persha and Yasnobrodivka. The defense forces are holding back the enemy's offensive and repelled 16 attacks, 12 combat engagements are ongoing.
The enemy also carried out six air strikes in the areas of Zhelanne, Ivanivka, and Novoekonomichne.
In the Kurakhove direction, Russian troops attacked four times near Krasnohorivka and Heorhiivka. Three of the battles are over, one is ongoing.
In the Vremivka direction, two Russian attacks near Kostiantynivka are still ongoing. In addition, the Russian militants bombarded the area near Vodiane with glide bombs.
In the Huliaipole direction, the enemy is storming the positions of Ukrainian defenders near Huliaipole. The battle is still ongoing.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy was unsuccessful, attacking Ukrainian defenses twice near Mala Tokmachka and Novoandriivka. The Russians also fired more than 50 unguided aerial missiles toward Lobkove and Kamianske.
The situation did not change significantly in other frontline areas.
Shelling of Kharkiv
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian troops have been regularly shelling Kharkiv. Sometimes there is not just one attack per day, but several at once.
In particular, on July 24, the enemy struck Kharkiv 5 times. The attacks targeted the industrial zone and the private sector. Later, local authorities reported that the Russians attacked the office of a humanitarian organization that deals with demining. The enemy used ballistic missiles for the attack.
