Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 1
Russians continue to put pressure on the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Donetsk region (facebook.com/State Border Guard Service of Ukraine)
There have been 122 military engaements on the front lines in Ukraine over the past day. Russian army has been actively pushing against the Ukrainian positions in the Avdiivka direction, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling of Ukraine
Overall, the enemy launched 8 missile strikes and 61 airstrikes, conducted 129 shelling operations with rocket artillery on the positions of our troops and civilian settlements. Unfortunately, there have been casualties and injuries among the civilian population due to Russian terrorist attacks. Civilian infrastructure has suffered destruction and damage.
During the past day, populated areas were subjected to airstrikes:
- Vodolay, Yamne in the Sumy region;
- Vesele, Kharkiv, Vovchansk, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Podoly in the Kharkiv region;
- Serebrianske Forestry and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region;
- Yampolivka, Siversk, Verkhniokamyanske, Chasiv Yar, Novobakhmutivka, Prohres, Netailove, Zhelanne Pershe, Nevelske, Yevhenivka, Paraskeviivka, Kostiantynivka, Vodiane, Urozhaine, Staromaiorske, Storozheve, Velyka Novosilka, Novyi Komar in the Donetsk region;
- Mala Tokmachka in the Zaporizhzhia region;
- Mykolaiivka, Tiahynka, Yantarne in the Kherson region.
Over 120 populated areas in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions were under artillery fire.
Situation at frontlines
The operational situation remains unchanged in the Volyn and Polissia directions.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the Russians maintain a military presence in the border areas and conduct sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled 6 attacks in the areas of Berestove, east of Kopanky in the Kharkiv region, and in Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk region.
On the Lyman direction, the defense forces repelled 21 Russian attacks in the areas of Novoyehorivka, Hrekivka, Makiivka, Nevske, and Serebrianske Forestry in the Luhansk region, as well as Terny in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 33 attacks in the areas of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region; Verkhniokamyanske, Rozdolivka, Spirne, Novyi, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, and Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 33 attacks in the areas of Arkhanhelske, Keramik, Sokil, Umanske, Semenivka, Yasnobrodivka, and Netailove in the Donetsk region.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian military continue to hold the enemy in the areas of Heorhiivka, Paraskeviivka, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, where the enemy attempted to break through Ukrainian defense 18 times.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy attacked the Ukrainian positions 5 times in the areas of Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region; Robotyne and southwest of Bilohirya in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy persists in its intent to dislodge Ukrainian units from bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Thus, during the past day, they launched 2 unsuccessful attacks on Ukrainian troops' positions.
Russian losses
During the past day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck 12 areas of concentration of enemy personnel. Also, during the night, two reconnaissance UAVs of the enemy were destroyed by the forces and means of Ukrainian air defense.
Rocket troops units struck one area of concentration of personnel and one anti-aircraft missile system of the enemy.
According to ISW data, the Russians are pressing in the area of Robotyne, however, the Ukrainian forces have restored positions near Kreminna in the Luhansk region.
Meanwhile, Russians may initiate an offensive on Toretsk to accelerate the occupation of Chasiv Yar.
