Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of April 22

Over the last day, 85 combat engagements took place. Ukrainian troops repelled 16 Russian attacks in the Avdiivka direction, 23 attacks in the Novopavlivka direction, and 23 attacks, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Russian attacks on Ukraine
In total, Russia launched 4 missile and 45 air strikes, fired 71 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
Situation at frontlines
The operational situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions remains without significant changes.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, Russia maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border.
In the Kupiansk directions, Russian troops did not conduct any offensive (assault) actions.
In the Lyman direction, Russia attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders 17 times in the areas of Serebrianske forestry in the Luhansk region and Terniv in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 14 Russian attacks in the areas of Bilohorivka, Luhansk region; Verkhniokamianske, Vyimka, and Bohdanivka, Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 16 Russian attacks in the areas of Ocheretyne, Berdychi, Umanske, Yasnobrodivka, Netailove, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back Russian y in the areas of Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, Vodiane, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, where Russia tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops 23 times.
In the Orikhiv direction, Russia attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders 4 times near Staromaiorske, Donetsk region, and Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, Russian troops have not abandoned their intention to drive Ukrainian units from their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River and have launched 4 unsuccessful attacks on Ukrainian troops' positions.
Armed Forces of Ukraine's strikes
Over the past day, the aviation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck 9 areas where Russian personnel, weapons, and military equipment were concentrated. Ukrainian Air Defense Forces also destroyed 2 Kh-59 guided missiles.
Ukrainian missile troops struck 1 area of concentration of Russian personnel and 1 control point of UAVs.
According to a report by the Institute for War Studies, Ukrainian forces can still defend Chasiv Yar, except for its eastern outskirts. The Russian troops managed to gain a foothold in the area of Bohdanivka. They can use this to try to surround Chasiv Yar.
