Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of April 18

Ukrainian defenders repelled 24 Russian attacks in the Bakhmut direction, held their positions, and repelled Russian forces' assaults in the Kherson direction. Ukrainian missile forces struck the Russian ammunition depot, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling of Ukraine
Over the past day, 87 combat engagements took place. In total, Russia launched 4 missile and 57 air strikes, and fired 89 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas.
Unfortunately, Russian attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. A number of high-rise buildings, a hospital, a hotel, and other civilian infrastructure facilities were destroyed and damaged.
Russian troops carried out air strikes in:
- Rozhdestvenske in Sumy region;
- Synkivka in Kharkiv region;
- Bilohorivka and Serebrianske forestry in Luhansk region;
- Diliivka, Ivano-Dariivka, Rozdolivka, Verkhniokamianske, Andriivka, Stupochky, Kostiantynivka, Klishchiivka, Novoselivka Persha, Ocheretyno, Vodiane, Novokalynove, Novopokrovske, Spirne, Sokil, Semenivka, Soloviove, Krasnohorivka, Novobakhmutivka, Heorhiivka, Urozhaine, Oleksandropil, Staromaiorske in Donetsk region;
- Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia region;
- Krynky and Beryslav in Kherson region.
Over 120 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions were under artillery fire.
Situation at frontlines
The operational situation remains unchanged in the Volyn and Polissia directions
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, Russia maintains a military presence in the border areas and conducts sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of our troops to threatened areas.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian troops attacked Ukrainian positions 4 times near Novoserhiivka, Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 3 attacks near Nevske, Luhansk region, and Terny, Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 24 attacks in the areas of Bilohorivka, Luhansk region; Vyimka, Rozdolivka, Chasiv Yar, Novyi, Klishchiivka, Donetsk region, where the Russian troops, with the support of aviation, tried to improve the tactical situation.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 19 Russian attacks in the areas of Semenivka, Novobakhmutivka, Ocheretyne, Novokalynove, Yasnobrodivka, Netailove, Pervomaiske and Novoukrainka in the Donetsk region.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back Russian troops in the areas of Vodiane, Krasnohorivka, Pobeda, Novomykhailivka, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, where Russian troops, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops 23 times.
In the Orikhiv direction, Russian troops, with the support of aviation, attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders 5 times near Staromaiorske, Donetsk region.
In the Kherson direction, Russia has not abandoned its intention to drive Ukrainian units from their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Thus, over the past day, Russian invaders made three unsuccessful attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops.
At the same time, Ukrainian soldiers continue to actively inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces, depleting the Russian troops along the entire front line.

Over the past day, the aviation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck 8 areas of concentration of Russian personnel.
Ukrainian missile troops destroyed 1 ammunition depot and 1 other important Russian object.
The total number of Russian army losses since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine is 456,050.
