Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of February 16

Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, repelling attacks by Russian forces near Terny (the Donetsk region) and damaging two enemy radar stations, according to the data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
During the day, there were 51 combat clashes. In total, the enemy launched 30 rocket and 56 aerial strikes, and conducted 70 shelling attacks using reactive multiple rocket launcher systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas.
As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are casualties among the civilian population. Multi-story and private houses, educational institutions, as well as critical infrastructure objects, have been destroyed and damaged.
Frontline situation
There have been no significant changes in the operational situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions. There are no signs of the formation of offensive groups. Identified units of the Armed Forces of Belarus are carrying out tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shells populated areas from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine.
Russian troops carried out airstrikes in the vicinity of populated areas Udy, Hatysche, Katerynivka in the Kharkiv region. Artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy affected more than 10 populated areas, including Leonivka in the Chernihiv region; Seredyna-Buda, Koreneok, Studenok, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Kyndrativka, Bilovody, Velyka Pysarivka in the Sumy region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions. Approximately 10 populated areas, including Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Lyman direction, our soldiers repelled 8 attacks near the populated areas of Terni, Yampolivka, and Torske in the Donetsk region, and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, where the enemy attempted to breach the defense of our troops. The adversary conducted airstrikes in the vicinity of populated areas Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, Rozdolivka, and Terny in the Donetsk region.
Over 10 populated areas were affected by enemy artillery and mortar shelling, including Nevske, and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region; Terny, Yampolivka, Torske in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled 5 attacks near Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Andriivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, supported by aviation, attempted to improve their tactical position. Additionally, the adversary conducted airstrikes in the area of the settlement Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region.
Approximately 10 populated areas, including Kalynivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 27 attacks in the vicinity of Avdiivka and another 2 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, supported by aviation, continues attempts to capture Avdiivka. Occupiers also conducted airstrikes in the areas of Semenivka, Lastochkyne in the Donetsk region.
Up to 20 populated areas were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar shelling, including Avdiivka, Novobakhmutivka, Berdychiv, Lastochkyne, Nevelske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, the Defense forces continue to hold back the enemy near Hеоrhiivka, Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Here, invaders, with air support, attempted to breach our troops' defense 7 times.
Under enemy artillery and mortar fire were Krasnohorivka, Hеorhiivka, Pobieda, Kostiantynivka.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions. About 10 populated areas, including Vodiane, Zolota Nyva, Urozhaine, Staramaiorske in Donetsk region, came under artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, no enemy offensive (assault) actions were observed. Over 20 populated areas, including Poltavka, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Pyatykhatky, Kamianske in Zaporizhzhia region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa operational-strategic group in the Kherson direction, Romashkove, Kherson, Dniprovskyi in the Kherson region, and Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region were under artillery and mortar fire. Additionally, the enemy shelled Kherson with multiple rocket launchers.
Ukrainian Armed Forces offensive
The enemy persists in its intention to dislodge our units from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River.
Indeed, during the day, there were 2 attempts to storm the positions of our troops.
Enemy losses
During the day, the defense forces' aviation conducted strikes on 11 areas of concentration of personnel and anti-aircraft missile systems of the occupiers.
Units of the missile forces struck 3 areas of concentration of personnel, 2 artillery firing positions, 1 ammunition depot, and 2 enemy radar stations.
It is worth noting that the total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion amounts to 400,300 military personnel.
