Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 27

Ukrainian troops continue to hold back Russian invaders in the Maryinka sector, where the occupiers are trying to improve their tactical position, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult. Over the last day, 64 combat engagements took place.
The enemy also launched one missile attack and fired 35 times from multiple rocket launchers at Ukrainian troops' positions and populated areas.
Russian terrorist attacks resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Multi-storey and private buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.
Situation at the frontline
The situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions remained unchanged. There are no signs of offensive groups forming. Certain units of the Belarusian armed forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shells settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine.
In the Kupiansk direction, our defenders repelled five enemy attacks near the towns of Synkivka in Kharkiv region and Stelmakhivka in Luhansk region, where the enemy tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 enemy attacks near Terny, Yampolivka, Torske in Donetsk region and Bilohorivka in Luhansk region, where the enemy tried to break through the defense of our troops.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled six enemy attacks in the vicinity of Ivanivske and Klishchiivka in Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical situation.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled eight enemy attacks in the areas of Stepove and Avdiivka and another 12 attacks in the areas of Tonenke and Pervomaiske in Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to break through the defense of our troops.
In the Maryinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical situation 10 times.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, our defenders repelled three enemy attacks in the areas south of Zolota Nyva and west of Staromayorsk in the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, our soldiers repelled an enemy attack in the area west of Verbove, Zaporizhzhia region.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa separate military unit in the Kherson direction, the enemy shelled the regional center of Kherson region and the areas of Beryslav, Antonivka, Dniprovske in Kherson region and Ochakiv in Mykolaiv region.
Ukrainian Armed Forces offensive
The enemy does not abandon its intention to drive our units from their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Thus, during the day, the enemy made one unsuccessful attempt to storm the positions of our troops.
Russian losses
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck four areas of concentration of enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment.
Missile units struck one artillery unit and two enemy ammunition depots.
