Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 9

Over the past day, 95 combat engagements took place. The Russian military launched about 30 air strikes against Ukraine. Ukrainian defense forces shot down 14 aggressor cruise missiles, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
In total, the enemy launched 28 missiles and 27 air strikes and fired 59 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of our troops and populated areas.
Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Private homes and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.
Petropavlivka, Podoly, Ivanivka, Pershotravneve in Kharkiv region; Nadiya, Nevske, Serebryanske forestry in Luhansk region; Kolodyazi, Serebrnka, Chasiv Yar, Avdiivka, Lastochkino in Donetsk region were hit by air strikes.
More than 100 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.
The situation at the frontlines
The operational situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions remains unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of our troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 enemy attacks in the vicinity of Synkivka, northeast of Petropavlivka and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack near Spirne in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, our troops repelled 13 enemy attacks in the areas of Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. Ukrainian defense forces continue assault operations south of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the enemy, and consolidating their positions.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the enemy, who keeps trying to encircle Avdiivka. Our soldiers are steadfastly holding the line, inflicting significant losses on the enemy. Ukrainian defense forces successfully repelled 35 enemy attacks in the areas east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka, Tonenke, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Pobeda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where our defenders repelled 24 attacks.
In the Shakhtarsk and Zaporizhzhia directions, the Defense Forces repelled all attacks by the enemy, who tried to regain their lost ground in the areas west of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Melitopol direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continued to inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces, depleting the enemy along the entire front line.
In the Kherson direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continued to hold their positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, continued to conduct counter-battery combat, and inflicted fire on the enemy's rear.
Enemy losses
Missile troops struck 6 areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment and 1 enemy electronic warfare station.
The Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 14 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles.
