Russia-Ukraine war: frontline update as of August 5

Over the past 24 hours, Ukraine has witnessed 36 intense clashes as Ukrainian forces continue their offensive operations in the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, reported the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook.
Russian attacks
Over the past 24 hours, Russia carried out 1 missile strike and 50 aerial attacks, along with 86 artillery barrages using missile systems. These Russian terrorist attacks have unfortunately resulted in casualties and injuries among civilians, with residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure facing destruction. The likelihood of further missile and aerial strikes across Ukraine remains very high.
Frontline situation
The operational situation on the Volyn and Polissia directions has not seen significant changes.
On the Siversky and Slobodzhanske directions, the enemy launched aviation strikes in the areas of Volfine and Kostiantynivka in the Sumy region. More than 25 populated areas, including Khrinivka, Bleshnia, and Yanzhulivka in the Chernihiv region, and Kozache, Boyaro-Lezhachi, and Kindrativka in the Sumy region, as well as Kozacha-Lopan, Mala Vovcha, Ambarne, and Bolohivka in the Kharkiv region, were subjected to mortar and artillery shelling.
On the Kupiansk direction, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the area of Shyikivka in the Kharkiv region. Over 10 populated areas, including Putnykove, Fiholivka, Podoly, and Kyslivka in the Kharkiv region, were subjected to artillery and mortar fire.
On the Lyman direction, the enemy launched aviation strikes in the areas of Hryhorivka and Serebrianka in the Donetsk region. More than 10 populated areas, including Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Verkhniokamianske, Berestove, and Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region, faced enemy artillery shelling.
On the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian defense forces have held off the enemy's attacks in the areas of Klishchiivka and Kurdiumivka. Enemy aviation strikes were reported in the areas of Markove, Klishchiivka, Bila Hora, and New York. Over 15 populated areas in the Donetsk region, including Predtechyne, Bila Hora, Pivnichne, and New York, were affected by enemy artillery fire.
On the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled Russian attacks in the area of Avdiivka, enduring intense fire from enemy aviation and artillery. More than 15 populated areas, including Oleksandrivka, Novobakhmutivka, Novokalynove, Siverne, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, were subjected to artillery shelling.
On the Maryinka direction, Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold back Russian troops in the areas of Maryinka, Staromykhailivka, and Krasnohorivka. Enemy aviation strikes were reported near Krasnohorivka, and over 10 populated areas, including Krasnohorivka, Hostre, Maryinka, Pobieda, Novomykhailivka, Paraskeviiivka, and Katerynivka in the Donetsk region, faced enemy shelling.
On the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy's attempt to regain lost ground in the area of Blahodatne was unsuccessful. They launched aviation strikes near Staromykhailivka. Over 15 populated areas in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, including Blahodatne, Vuhledar, Bohoyavlenska, Prechystivka, Zolota Niva, and Velyka Novosilka, were affected by enemy artillery fire.
On the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy launched unsuccessful attacks near Novopokrovka. They conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Mala Tokmachka, Orikhiv, and Novodanilivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. The enemy concentrates its efforts on preventing further advancement of Ukrainian forces. Over 15 populated areas, including Olhivske, Biloheirie, Mala Tokmachka, Novodarivka, Mali Shcherbaky, and Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region, experienced enemy artillery fire.
On the Kherson direction, the enemy launched aviation strikes near Odradokamianka and Dach. More than 25 populated areas, including Chervonyi Mayak, Antonivka, Dniprovskyi, Stanislav, and Kherson in the Kherson region, faced enemy artillery shelling.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian defense forces continue their offensive operation on the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, consolidating their positions and conducting counter-battery measures.
Enemy losses
During the past day, Ukrainian defense aviation carried out 9 strikes on areas of concentration of Russian personnel, equipment, and military machinery. Ukrainian military destroyed 2 enemy Shakhed-136 UAVs.
Ukrainian missile and artillery units destroyed 9 artillery pieces at firing positions and 2 areas of concentration of enemy personnel, weapons and military equipment.
The Russian occupying army has expressed concerns that Ukrainian artillery strikes are complicating their logistics on the Berdiansk direction.
