Russia shares nuclear secrets with Iran, sparking US and UK fears
The United States and the United Kingdom are concerned that Russia is sharing confidential nuclear information and technology with Iran, specifically regarding Tehran's potential to develop nuclear weapons, according to Bloomberg.
According to the publication, in exchange for Tehran providing Moscow with ballistic missiles for the war against Ukraine, Russia is sharing nuclear secrets with Iran.
Western officials have stated that the Kremlin has intensified its cooperation with Iran due to its ambitions to develop nuclear weapons. This week, representatives from the US and the UK discussed the issue in Washington, where Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with President Joe Biden. They described the situation as alarming and emphasized the escalation of military ties between Russia and Iran.
According to a White House National Security Council spokesperson, the Biden administration remains deeply concerned about Iran's nuclear activities. Biden has made it clear that the US is prepared to counter any nuclear escalation from Iran.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken suggested during a recent visit to London that Russia is exchanging nuclear technology with Iran. He stated that Moscow received a shipment of Iranian Fath-360 ballistic missiles in exchange for information.
"For its part, Russia is sharing technology that Iran seeks — this is a two-way street — including on nuclear issues, as well as some space information," Blinken emphasized.
It is worth noting that on Saturday, September 14, G7 foreign ministers condemned Iran's transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia.
Iran-Russia cooperation
Earlier, Western media reported that Iran had supplied ballistic missiles to Russia. Tehran officially denies this information.
Recently, an Iranian parliament member inadvertently mentioned the missile supplies to Russia, stating that the missiles are being delivered to Moscow in exchange for soybeans and wheat.
