Frontline situation
Ukraine has regained about 470 square kilometers of territory in the south and neutralized more than 11,000 Russian troops since the start of the counteroffensive, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said. During a visit to the southern operational zone, he reviewed combat progress, discussed next steps, and coordinated actions with unit commanders.
Ukrainian counterattacks in the Oleksandrivka and Huliaipole sectors are forcing Russian commanders to adjust plans and redeploy forces from the Donetsk region to the south, according to ISW.
Since late January 2026, Ukrainian forces have made notable gains, including liberating Berezove and eliminating a Russian salient in the area. Ukraine says more than 400 square kilometers have been recaptured, while ISW has confirmed at least 334 square kilometers, noting actual gains are likely higher.
