Frontline situation
Ukraine is rapidly integrating robotic systems into frontline combat, enabling operations such as assaults and prisoner captures without infantry involvement. Ground drones and UAVs are now widely used, with some even holding defensive positions for extended periods. Over 22,000 robotic missions have been conducted in recent months, saving lives by replacing soldiers in high-risk zones. While Ukraine is moving toward highly automated warfare—including plans for a 15–20 km automated combat zone—it remains cautious about fully autonomous AI, insisting that humans must retain final control over lethal decisions.
Meanwhile, Russian forces have conducted several small-scale assaults across multiple regions, but most failed to achieve meaningful progress. Analysts believe these attacks were likely reconnaissance efforts or attempts to probe Ukrainian defenses ahead of larger operations. While Russia may aim to create the illusion of a broad offensive and stretch Ukrainian forces, its limited resources and lack of significant gains suggest the strategy is currently ineffective, with only one direction near Huliaipole showing signs of reinforcement.
