Russia's advance is slowing as Ukraine prepares new moves on the front

Russian forces are gradually losing momentum in their advance on the battlefield, while Ukraine’s military leadership is preparing further offensive actions in selected areas of the front, Pavlo Palisa, deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said.
Palisa said Ukraine is seeing a sustained trend of slowing Russian advances. At the same time, the active front line remains extensive, stretching for approximately 1,200 kilometers.
“We continue to see a steady trend toward a slowdown in the enemy’s advance. The active front line remains approximately 1,200 kilometers long,” the presidential official said.
He added that developments in some areas of the front give him “limited optimism.”
Ukraine to continue active operations
Palisa also spoke about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent visit to units operating in the Oleksandrivske direction.
The units belong to Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces and have been conducting active operations in the area for an extended period. During the visit, military commanders briefed the president on plans for further operations in the sector.
According to Palisa, Zelenskyy approved the plans.
Active operations are also being planned in other areas of the front. The presidential official emphasized that Ukraine will continue to follow its strategy of active defense.
“Active operations in certain areas of the front are still being planned and will continue. The philosophy of active defense remains in place,” Palisa said.
Ukraine is gradually closing the gap between the amount of territory Russia has captured and the amount Ukrainian forces have liberated since the beginning of 2026. Zelenskyy said the figures could reach parity by the end of the year.
