Russia launches over 100 attack drones: How Ukraine’s air defenses performed

On the night of October 9, Russia launched 136 attack drones at Ukraine. The defense forces shot down or neutralized most of them, but some hit their targets, according to the Air Force.
Starting in the evening of October 8, the enemy deployed 136 drones. These included Shahed attack drones, 93 of which were jet-powered, as well as Gerbera drones and decoys of the Parodiya type.
The drones flew from the directions of Oryol and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as from occupied Donetsk and occupied Hvardiiske in Crimea.
According to preliminary data, air defense forces shot down or neutralized 114 enemy drones. Among them were Shahed drones (77 of which were jet-powered), Gerbera drones, and other types of drones.
Enemy aerial attacks were recorded at 8 locations. Debris from downed drones fell at 7 additional locations.
The attack is ongoing, with several enemy drones still in the sky.
On the night of October 9, Poland scrambled its combat aircraft in response to Russia’s attempts to attack western regions of Ukraine with drones.
Ground-based air defense systems and radar reconnaissance in Poland are also on high alert.
On the morning of October 9, the Russians struck Zaporizhzhia. According to updated data, one person was killed in the city, and seven were injured.
