Russia launched over 90 drones over Ukraine. How air defense worked
Russian troops launched 94 drones at Ukraine on the night of January 12. The air defense forces shot down two of them, according to the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On the night of January 12, 2025 (from 6:00 PM on January 11), the enemy attacked with 94 Shahed-type strike drones and various types of imitator drones from the directions of Millerovo, Orel, Bryansk, and Kursk, according to the report.
How the air defense worked
The airstrike was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Forces and the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
"As of 09:00, 60 Shahed-type strike drones and other types of drones were confirmed to have been shot down," the military said.
The air defense worked in the Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Donetsk regions.
In addition, 34 enemy imitator drones were lost due to location-based impacts.
Consequences of the Russian attack on Ukraine
An air raid alert was declared in Ukraine after 11:00 PM on Saturday, January 11, due to the threat of drones. Later, air raid alerts were declared due to the threat of ballistic missiles.
In particular, explosions were heard in the Kyiv region, where air defense was engaged against Russian drones.
Several buildings in the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Poltava regions were damaged due to the debris of downed enemy drones.
