Russia faces setbacks moving troops from Syria to Libya - Defense Intelligence
Russia continues to evacuate its military contingent from Syria to Libya. However, the Russians have encountered another setback there, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) reports.
Russian ships near Syria are experiencing fuel tank leaks.
"The ship Alexander Otrakovsky has encountered problems with its water desalination system, and the second and third fuel tanks have started leaking," the report states.
Currently, the Russian dry cargo vessel Sparta and two large landing ships, Ivan Gren and Alexander Otrakovsky, are anchored offshore near the port of Tartus.
At the same time, the Russians are facing problems evacuating military assets by sea, as they still do not have permission for their ships to enter the port of Tartus.
Evacuation of Russian Forces from Syria
Russia continues to transfer weapons and military equipment from Syria to Libya using aircraft. All military vehicles that are inoperative and require repairs have been ordered to be burned by Russian soldiers.
For instance, on January 9, Russian Rear Admiral Valery Varfolomeyev made another unsuccessful attempt to negotiate, as he was denied access to talks.
It should be noted that Russia began evacuating its military contingent from Syria after rebels took control of the capital, Damascus, and the regime of dictator Bashar al-Assad was overthrown.
