Western intelligence services warn of a potential Russian attack on the European Union after 2028, RP ONLINE reports, citing Kaja Kallas, EU high representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

"Many of our national intelligence agencies are informing us that Russia might test the EU's defense capabilities in three to five years," Kallas stated during an event organized by the European Defense Agency in Brussels.

EU high representative emphasized the need for the EU to not only invest resources to prevent conflict but also prepare for such a scenario.

"Europe's failure to invest in military capacity sends a dangerous signal to the aggressor. Weakness invites aggression," the EU high representative added.

Threat of war between Russia and west

In December 2024, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte called on member states to immediately revise their defense strategies, citing a prolonged threat from Russia.

Earlier, in September, the defense ministers of Latvia, Poland, and Romania urged NATO allies to strengthen air defense measures on the alliance's eastern flank.

In addition, reports by The Guardians indicated that Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Germany are taking active steps to enhance public readiness for emergencies and potential military conflicts.
