Russia attacked Ukraine with more than 60 drones overnight: Air defense works
On the night of January 8, Russia launched 64 Shahed-type drones over Ukrainian territory. Air defense forces successfully shot down 41 enemy drones, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
According to the Air Force, between 7:30 p.m. on January 7 and 9:00 a.m. on January 8, the enemy launched 64 strike drones of the Shahed type and decoy UAVs. The Russians deployed drones of various types from the directions of Oryol, Kursk, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
The air assault was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Force, and the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
As of 9:00 a.m., the confirmed downing of 41 strike UAVs, including Shahed drones and other types, was reported in the Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Kirovohrad regions.
In addition, 22 enemy decoy drones were lost locally without causing any negative consequences. Of these, three drones flew back toward Russia, and one headed to Belarus.
Night drone attack
During the night, reports emerged about air defense activity in the Kyiv region.
Earlier, on the evening of January 7, the Russians launched strike drones, including Shahed-type UAVs, towards Ukraine. Due to the threat of kamikaze drones, air raid alerts were declared in several regions.
