Rubio may meet Lavrov soon, Reuters leaks possible date

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio may meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in just a few days, reports Reuters.
An unnamed source told the news agency that at a meeting on Friday, October 17, US officials said Rubio plans to meet with Lavrov on Thursday, October 23.
The State Department did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
Rubio-Lavrov meeting
On Thursday, October 16, US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin held a phone call.
Following the talks, Trump said they agreed to organize a meeting between senior US and Russian officials. The meeting will take place this week, and the US delegation will be headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Trump added that he will meet with Putin in Budapest. The exact date of the meeting is not yet known.
The main topic of the Rubio-Lavrov talks is expected to be preparations for a summit at the level of the two countries’ leaders.
Putin and Trump’s talk took place a day before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Washington.
As the head of the Ukrainian state noted, Putin sought talks with Trump due to the possible transfer of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy also criticized the choice of Budapest as the location for the new Putin-Trump meeting, since Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán blocks Ukraine.
