On Monday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio demanded that the Iranian delegation at the UN General Assembly immediately leave the country after the talks reached an impasse, reports Axios.
On Monday morning, the White House believed that progress could be made during the talks with Iran throughout the day. However, by the end of the day, it became clear that the talks had reached an impasse.
Then, on Monday evening, at Rubio's order, the US mission to the UN informed the Iranian mission to the UN that the delegation of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had to leave New York immediately.
"Secretary Rubio kicked out the Iranian delegation who had overstayed their welcome. The UN General Assembly was over, so it was time for them to go," a US official said.
The Iranian delegation, including Araghchi, headed to the airport several hours later and at 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday boarded a flight from New York to Doha.
A second source confirmed that the US demanded that the Iranian delegation leave the country, but added that Araghchi was going to return to Tehran on Monday evening anyway.
According to regional sources, Qatari mediators continue negotiations with both sides on the proposed compromise.
"Maybe I blow 'em up. We have to make that decision. We will blow 'em up or make a deal. But the time is coming. It's gonna end very soon one way or the other," US President Donald Trump told reporters on Wednesday when asked how he could make a deal with the Iranian regime.
Risk of war resumption
Donald Trump recently rejected Iran's peace proposal and, according to The Wall Street Journal, told his aides that he expects the bombing of the country to resume after the US midterm elections.
According to Axios, US-Iran talks have failed. The reason was that neither side is willing to make concessions.
The US imposed sanctions on 13 countries that helped Iran purchase weapons. Companies from Russia were included on the list.
