The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has ordered an additional 180,000 rounds of 35mm ammunition from Rheinmetall for the Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft gun. The order is worth a double-digit million euros and is funded by Germany, the press service of Rheinmetall reports.

According to the press service, a new order for HEI-T shells (high-explosive incendiary with a tracer) was received in December 2024.

Since February 2023, Rheinmetall has received an order to supply 300,000 Gepard shells to Ukraine.

The ordered ammunition can be used for effective repeated engagement of various aerial targets such as drones. They will be produced at Rheinmetall's plant in Unterluss. Due to the increased demand for 35mm ammunition, the production line at the facility was rebuilt in a very short time in the spring of 2023.

To date, Germany has handed over a total of 55 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks to Ukraine, which were decommissioned by the Bundeswehr. They have proven their value in air defense.

Rheinmetall also supplies Ukraine with various advanced air defense systems, such as the Skynex, which uses AHEAD programmable air-to-air munitions.

Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Germany has provided a significant amount of equipment, including air defense systems, Leopard tanks, howitzers, ammunition, and demining equipment.

In particular, the most recent aid package in December included 15 Leopard 1 A5 tanks, two Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns with spare parts.
