For many troubled couples, it's easier to stay in the familiar past than step into an uncertain future.

The term "quiet divorce" has been popping up more and more lately. And no, it doesn't mean signing divorce papers. It's when a couple officially stays together, lives under the same roof, visits friends and family together, and even posts photos on social media, but emotionally, the relationship has already ended.

Life coach Vitalii Kursik exclusively told Styler why this happens and which signs may indicate a "quiet divorce."

Signs of a quiet divorce

You stop sharing what truly matters. Your friends hear important news before your partner does.

"Do whatever you want." It may sound like freedom, but it often means: "I don't care anymore."

Curiosity disappears. Questions like "How was your day?" "What's bothering you?" "How are you feeling?" slowly vanish.

There are almost no arguments. And that's not always a good thing. Sometimes couples stop fighting not because they've found harmony, but because they no longer see the point.

Physical closeness becomes rare. Hugs, casual touches, or even the desire to sit next to each other gradually disappear.

The future is no longer about "we." Instead, it's "I plan," "I want," and "I think."

One partner stops investing in the relationship. Why put in the effort if they've already checked out emotionally?

You begin to feel lonely even when you're together.

However, Kursik stresses one important point: one or even several of these signs don't necessarily mean the relationship is over.

"Every couple goes through difficult periods stress, exhaustion, having children, or problems at work. Sometimes people are simply so drained that they only have enough energy to get through the day," the coach explains.

"The real problem begins when this state becomes the new normal when the silence lasts for months, and the emotional distance between you keeps growing," he adds.

According to Kursik, the worst thing about a quiet divorce is that it rarely happens overnight. Instead, it's built from dozens of small moments: "We'll talk later," "Not now," and "It doesn't matter anymore."

"If your relationship has become too quiet, it may be time to stop staying silent and start one honest conversation. Sometimes it saves the relationship. And sometimes it simply helps both people honestly bring it to an end," the expert concludes.
