Qatar passes lists of missing soldiers and letters from POWs in Russia to Ukraine
Qatar has passed lists of missing Ukrainian military personnel from Russia to Ukraine and has also provided letters from Ukrainian prisoners of war, according to the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.
Lubinets stated that he met in Qatar with Lolwah Rashid Al-Khater, the Minister of State for International Cooperation at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
They discussed prospects for accelerating prisoner exchanges between Ukraine and Russia.
"Thanks to the efforts of our primary mediator, I was able to obtain lists of missing military personnel and letters from Ukrainian prisoners of war to their families through Qatar. We also discussed the possibility of speeding up the process of exchanging prisoners," the ombudsman reported.
Ukraine and Qatar have managed to establish agreements to provide assistance to civilians in difficult situations, including help with document recovery.
Prisoner exchanges
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine and Russia have conducted 58 prisoner exchanges. A total of 3,767 Ukrainians have been returned from Russian captivity.
The latest exchange took place on the night of October 19, bringing 95 servicemen home. The freed soldiers include defenders from Mariupol and Azovstal, as well as from the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Kherson regions.
