Envoys of US President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are preparing for negotiations in Moscow. However, the Kremlin has bluntly stated that no political concessions will be made, according to a statement by Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov.
No promises from Putin’s circle
According to Lavrov, Russia will consider what Witkoff and Kushner offer. However, there will be no political concessions.
"Russia is ready for economic agreements, but without political concessions," he said.
Lavrov also stated that Moscow is ready to restore relations with the West, but things will not be as they were before 2022.
Lavrov further clarified that the Russian authorities do not expect any "miracle" from the Trump administration regarding sanctions. He urged against getting carried away by Trump's decision not to enforce the sanctions law (the "hellish sanctions" against Russia authored by Senator Lindsey Graham - ed.).
"Another president will come—who knows how they will behave," Lavrov said.
Lavrov stated there would be no ceasefire to allow presidential elections to be held in Ukraine.
Furthermore, Lavrov claimed that calls by European leaders to prepare for a possible armed confrontation with Russia could allegedly provoke a war.
