Putin complains about 'Western elites' trying to disrupt Russia's dialogue with US

Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that Russia's recently launched dialogue with the administration of US President Donald Trump “provides hope.” But as he says at a meeting of the Russian FSB board “some Western elites” are trying to disrupt it.
“Some Western elites are still determined to keep instability in the world. And these forces will try to disrupt or compromise the dialogue that has been started,” Putin complained at the board on Thursday, February 27.
According to him, it is necessary to “use all the possibilities of diplomacy and special services" to disrupt such attempts. And the main goal is to protect Russia's national interests.
“In this regard, the FSB needs to continue its systematic work in all specialized areas. First and foremost, it is, of course, the fight against international terrorism,” he said.
Putin noted that the number of terrorist crimes in Russia has increased over the past year. And more than half of them were allegedly “planned and organized by Ukrainian special services and curators.”
The Kremlin leader also added that the United States and Russia are ready to re-establish cooperation, as the current partners in the United States “demonstrate pragmatism and a realistic view of things, and abandon stereotypes.”
Negotiations between the United States and Russia
The first talks between the United States and Russia took place on February 18, 2025, in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. They lasted about 4.5 hours and were the first meeting of this level since the beginning of the full-scale war.
After that, the United States stated that to end the war, “all sides must make concessions.” The parties then agreed to restore the number of staff in their embassies.
On February 27, the United States and Russia were holding their second meeting in a month. Their representatives gathered in Istanbul and, as officially stated, discussed “normalizing the work of the embassies” of the two countries.
