The Polish Sejm has supported a resolution on sanctions against agricultural products from the territories of Russia and Belarus, as it brings huge revenues to producers, traders, and budgets of these countries, according to Polskie Radio.

The agency states that the Lower House of the Polish Parliament called on the European Commission to impose sanctions on importing Russian and Belarusian food and agricultural products into the European Union.

The resolution was supported by 441 deputies of the Polish Sejm, with two abstentions.

"The resolution meets the needs of Polish and European farmers, is the voice of the Polish parliament, and at the same time strengthens the position of the Polish government in negotiations with the European Union. The document calls on the European Union to return to the rules that were in place in trade with Ukraine and other countries outside the Community before the war, which corresponds to the main demands of Polish farmers," said deputy Marta Vcyslo.

Another deputy, Vitold Tumanovich, emphasized the importance of banning trade in Russian agricultural products because Russian imports may contain grain stolen by the enemy from temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

At the end of February, the Latvian government banned grain import from Russia's territory and demanded the European Union to take the same step.

After that, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated the need to fight against the import of Russian grain to the European market. He noted that the European Union should impose comprehensive sanctions against such agricultural products supplied by Russia and Belarus. Tusk also clarified that he wanted to propose a draft resolution to the Polish Sejm, calling on the European Commission to address this issue.
