Poland sets up first fortifications along Russian and Belarusian borders
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, in an interview on Radio ZET, stated that Poland will establish its first fortifications on the border with Russia and Belarus in the coming days. These will be defensive structures.
According to the Minister, the initial fortifications under the Eastern Shield project will be installed along Poland's eastern border by the country’s Independence Day on November 11. Kosiniak-Kamysz specified that these will be defensive structures, such as reinforced concrete barriers and prepared terrain modifications, to impede enemy movement.
The minister also noted that Poland is accelerating the transformation of its army, with a focus on countering drones along the eastern border.
“Drone forces are being created. The General Staff is already prepared to establish a command for these forces, covering the full component,” said Kosiniak-Kamysz.
He emphasized the need to equip these forces with aerial drones and ground-based and underwater drones.
Poland strengthens border
Previously, Poland and the Baltic states proposed a 700-kilometer defense line along the borders with Russia and Belarus to the European Union.
Poland initiated the Eastern Shield project, which aims to strengthen the border with Russia and Belarus. The Polish government allocated 10 billion zlotys for this project.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk remarked that the Eastern Shield is intended to deter potential aggressors. Recently, Tusk announced that Poland has already begun constructing fortification lines along the Russian border.
