Pentagon breaks silence following Israeli attack on Iran
The US supports Israel's right to self-defense. Washington is firmly committed to preventing the escalation of tensions or conflict in the region, according to the Pentagon press service.
As Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder noted, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant to obtain updated information regarding the Israel Defense Forces' strikes on military targets in Iran.
"Austin reaffirmed the ironclad commitment of the United States to Israel's security and right to self-defense," the statement said.
Austin also emphasized the bolstering of US military posture to protect American personnel, Israel, and partners in the region against threats from Iran and Iran-backed terrorist organizations.
Additionally, the Pentagon stated that the US is firmly committed to preventing any individual from exploiting the tension or escalating conflict in the region.
Israel strikes Iran
On Saturday, October 26, Israel launched attacks on Iran in response to a missile strike from Tehran on October 1.
Media reports indicated explosions in Tehran and other Iranian cities. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that it targeted military sites in Iran.
According to Israeli military sources, dozens of aircraft were involved in the attack. The IDF emphasized that it struck solely military targets, including air defense batteries and facilities for producing ballistic missiles.
