Ukraine expresses solidarity with Lithuania following Belarusian provocations and a violation of Lithuania’s airspace that disrupted civil aviation, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said in a post on X.
He emphasized that the actions of self-proclaimed Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko should be regarded as part of Russia’s hybrid attacks against Europe and Ukraine.
Lithuania closes border with Belarus
The Lithuanian government announced that it will close its border crossings with Belarus from October 30 to November 30.
The Šalčininkai crossing will be completely shut down, while Medininkai will operate under limited conditions. The closure period may be extended.
The decision came after repeated incidents involving contraband balloons entering Lithuania from Belarus, posing a threat to airspace safety.
For instance, on the night of October 27, Vilnius Airport was temporarily closed, the fourth such incident within a week.
Lithuania has strengthened airspace monitoring and air defense in response to these violations.
