The Oscars is always a podium for demonstrating fashion achievements and experiments. However, not all star looks on the red carpet receive favorable reviews. Some outfits are criticized because of poor design, inappropriate for the event, or simply because of excessive extravagance.
Whoopi Goldberg
After a few years away from the Oscars, Whoopi Goldberg returned to the red carpet in 2025 as the event's host. The actress, who last attended the 88th ceremony in 2016, chose a Christian Siriano dress for this event.

During the Oscars 2025, Isabella Rossellini paid tribute to the late director David Lynch by appearing on the red carpet in a blue velvet Dolce & Gabbana dress. This choice was inspired by her role in the 1986 film Blue Velvet. However, viewers who were unaware of this context criticized her image.

50-year-old actress Penelope Cruz, who presented the trophy to director Walter Salles for the film I'm Still Here, chose a custom-made white silk chiffon dress from Chanel for the event, inspired by the spring-summer 1992 collection.
The dress was fully draped and decorated with precious buttons, and it took 254 hours to make.
However, some publications put the celebrity's dress on the list of the worst looks of the Oscars 2025.
