Operation by Ukraine's intelligence: Drones attack oil refinery in Kaluga region
On the night of March 15, Ukrainian drones targeted the oil refinery First Plant in the Kaluga region of the Russian Federation, engaged in oil processing. This was an operation carried out by the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, according to an RBC-Ukraine's source in the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
According to the report, this operation was conducted by the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, footage of the alleged strike on the Kaluga refinery is circulating on social media.
The Russian Telegram channel ASTRA reports that 3 drones hit the oil processing equipment of the First Plant chemical plant in the town of Polotnyany Zavod.
"A fire broke out. Equipment has been damaged. No casualties reported," ASTRA writes.
The governor of the Kaluga region, Roman Busargin, said in the morning that 4 drones were allegedly shot down in the region and that there are no casualties or infrastructure damage.
Meanwhile, Russian media sources claim that only one drone was actually shot down, and 3 precisely targeted the Kaluga refinery.
Attacks on Russian refineries
Recently, Ukrainian drones have been systematically targeting Russian refineries, even those located hundreds of kilometers away.
British intelligence reported that Russian refining capacities are shrinking due to attacks by combat drones, and damaged refineries will take longer to restore due to Western sanctions against Russian enterprises and the ban on importing crucial equipment to the aggressor country.
The latest and perhaps most significant attack was on one of Russia's largest refineries Lukoil-Nizhny Novgorodnefteorgsintez, which processed about 5% of the all-Russian volume of oil. It was effectively disabled due to successful drone strikes.
