Oat milk has been steadily replacing regular milk for several years now. It's becoming even trendier, but not everyone knows if this product is genuinely beneficial or harmful to health. Dietitians Marissa Meshulam, Tamar Samuels, and Sharon Palmer explain the potential dangers of oat milk, according to HuffPost.

What harm does oat milk cause?

Many people switch to oat milk because it doesn't contain gluten. However, experts say this is not entirely accurate.

"While oats are naturally gluten-free, they have a higher risk of cross-contamination, because they are typically processed in facilities that manufacture gluten-containing products," says Samuels.

Therefore, if you monitor your blood sugar levels or simply want to lose weight, consuming oat milk may harm you. Moreover, this product contains many carbohydrates and may have traces of pesticides with less beneficial types of oils.

" Oats are a highly sprayed pesticide crop, so if you are drinking it, I highly recommend organic. From a nutrition standpoint, one cup of oat milk provides the same amount of carbohydrates as a slice of bread, about 15 grams. And then when oats are processed into oat milk, the starches in oats are broken down to simple sugars," emphasized Meshulam.
